AS WE ALLOW GOD TO TEACH US, HE ENABLES US TO
PROPERLY
TRAINING OUR CHILDREN. As parents it is our responsibility to
train
our children. As christians it is our responsibility to train
them God's
way.
Training and teaching our children doesn't have to wait
until they are
5 or 8 or can read. It does not have to wait for birth. It can
begin in
the womb. I am sure we have all heard that a fetus can benefit
from
listening to Mozart or to mommy read. It is proven that a
fetus can
hear. We know that the spirit will also receive in the womb
(John
leapt in the womb). So this study does apply to all parent
even
parents to be.
One place God teaches us His way is in Deuteronomy 6:6&7
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be
in thine
heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children,
and shalt
talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou
walkest
by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest
up.
We need to first of all be faithful to put God's commands
in our
hearts. To spend time with Him in prayer and our bibles daily.
Then
we should diligently teach these commands to our
children.
Diligently means: being full of care, working hard at it, and steadily!!)
The rest of the verse revels to us wonderful opportunities
we have to
take advantage of teaching our children diligently.
When thou sittest in thine house
When your sitting at home, the childs own territory, with
the parents
he trust and loves, what more perfect opportunity could we ask
for?
Here is where the most molding and shaping takes place. At
home.
After school, (and during school for us homeschoolers) before
dinner,
at dinner, after dinner. And plenty of more time on the
weekends! ask
them "How does this scripture apply to your day? What
scripture could
you use to help in that situation? What does Jesus think about
that?"
Or just read scripture to them, a verse or two and then talk
about it.
It is important when we are teaching from the bible to read
from it.
Even if we already know the scripture. Even if the child can't
read,
start early!! Show them that 'this is what Jesus says and we
have to
obey what He says' that everything is not just because mommy
and
daddy said, but because we ALL have to answer to the Lord for
it and
we are to please Him. Teach them that we go to the bible for
our
answers.
When though walkest by the way
Well, most of us drive now days not walk. But the same
applies.
Usually when we are in the car we are listening to the radio.
Lets turn
off those radios and see if we can find a scripture to talk
about to the
younger ones. Pray over them as you drive. Have them pray. For
the
older ones have them read to YOU from the bible as you
drive!
Children love to show off their reading skills to their
parents!! And
what a blessing to have them read scripture! It is a wonderful
way to
encourage them to read their own bible and get them interested
in
doing so.
When thou liest down
A great chance, don't let it pass by! Pray for them and
give them the
opportunity to pray. Let them pray for their sleep for their
family, and
friends. Teach them to thank the Lord for the things of the
day.
Remind them of things that happened that they should be
thankful
for. Read them a scripture about sleep. Let them know that the
Lord
blesses the sleep of his beloved (Psalm127:2) That when we lay
down
and sleep we can be at peace and know that the Lord, and only
the
Lord keeps us safe (Psalms 4:8).
When thou risest up
Psalms 92:1 It is a good thing to give thanks unto the
Lord, and to
sing praises unto thy name, O MOST HIGH (2) To shew forth
thy
lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every
night. When
we get up in the morning we need to ask "How was your sleep?"
and
then remind them that the Lord blessed it! Pray for their day
and let
them pray for yours. Tell them how much Jesus loves them!!
Read
scriptures to them that tells of His love for them!!
I want to challenge each of you here: For the next month be
diligent
in teaching your children. Turn off the television for a while
each
night, turn off the radio and talk instead. Talk about it when
you lay
down and when you get up.
Maybe it sounds like alot, but think about it. What do you
want for
your child? We HAVE to take the time now while their minds
are
moldable. While they are still under our authority. Prepare
them to
obey the Lord so that He can use them. It is the most
important thing
we can do for them as parents.
When the Lord speaks to my children I want them to reply
"Here I am
Lord, send me" I want them to pay the price, to go all the
way. To
live every single second of their lives for Jesus! I want to
see my
children stand before the Lord and have Him say to each of
them "well
done, my good and faithful servant" and that to comes for a
price, a
price that we can help to pay.
When they are old, they WILL NOT depart from it.
In one month I would like for anyone who is willing to take
the
challenge to meet back here to talk about what has happened in
their
lives and the lives of our children. I know that we will all
be blessed
by the things that will happen when we take the time to do it
God's
way.
I feel like accountability is important here and to help
with that: all
who want to participate just raise your hand and say "me,
me,
me!!"
